NWS confirms two tornado touchdowns in Rowan County
Meteorologist from the National Weather Service in Greenville Spartanburg visited Rowan County today to survey damage from two areas in the county. The NWS GSP meteorologist confirmed that an EF-2 Tornado touched down in Kannapolis and caused damage in Rowan County along Pless Road.
What is Graupel
During the early afternoon hours today i started getting reports of hail and sleet occurring in portions of the county. Based on the atmospheric conditions and lack of certain supporting factors that could lead to hail or sleet.
Does it really snow in the winter seven days after it thunders?
Last week we had a few rumbles of thunder around the county. As you can expect a lot of Rowan County Residents got excited saying it would snow in the next seven days. Based on an old wives tale that we have likely all heard at some point during our lifetime.
Strong thunderstorms possible tonight
As we move into the evening hours on this Saturday. Rain chances will increase with the possibility of strong storms in the overnight hours for Sunday.

Moderate Drought Conditions Continue
For a second straight week moderate drought conditions continue around the county. There continues to be very little rain to help pull us out of these conditions. The good news is there could be some relief on Monday with a 40% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate Drought Conditions in Rowan County
Three weeks ago I reported that abnormally dry conditions had returned to the county. Unfortunately since that time, Dry conditions have continues to persist. We are now over one month since any measurable rainfall fell at the Mid-Carolina Airport.

9/19/19 Drought Update
As we continue to remain in dry conditions around the area. All of Rowan County is now under abnormally dry conditions with regards to Drought. This is the beginning of what could lead to Stage 1 Drought conditions around the county if we do not get some much needed rainfall soon.
