Drought Update

Thursday, September 22, 2016 - 2:36pm

Abnormally dry conditions continue around the county as we continue to be in desperate need of rainfall

The weekly drought monitor is out and no changes in the conditions.

For the year we continue to be on pace for one of the driest years on record around the county.

Currently in 4th on the list and looking at almost 3 weeks since the airport where the official readings are kept has had any measurable rainfall.

For the month of September

We are currently having the 8th driest September on record here in Rowan County.

How are we compared to the normal?

We are essentially normal in all categories except for Precipitation we are 8.6 inches below normal. If we do not get some measurable rainfall soon we will drop into a moderate drought category. After today rain is not likely in the forecast over the next 5 days. So things need to turn around quickly.

I will post weekly updates on the drought situation until we are finally back into a non-drought status.

So the next time we get rain. Hope for it to rain all day long to help get us back on the normal side of things.

As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
