...INCREASED FIRE DANGER IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST THIS EVENING...

A very dry air mass will remain in place over the region today.
Critical relative humidity values in the 20s will develop this
afternoon across the North Carolina Piedmont and portions of the
northeast mountains, including the Burke, Caldwell, and McDowell
mountains.

Low relative humidity, lack of recent rainfall, and dry fuels will
contribute to enhanced fire danger, increasing the risk of
wildfires developing and spreading quickly in these areas. Most of
these locations remain under a burn ban due to ongoing drought
conditions.
