Local short track and dirt driver Dylan Smith is set to make his return to the World Short Track Championships this week at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. There is a lot on the line for Dylan this weekend as his is literally coming out of a short retirement to see if he can reclaim some racing glory against some of the world's best short track drivers on the dirt. I had a conversation with Dylan about this event, his career and where it has brought him. He is racing with just his family on a limited budget making any win he gets more satisfying. We discussed his time growing up and learning his craft at tracks like Millbridge. His help with some others who cleaned the racing surface at North Wilkesboro Speedway just for an iRacing scan that literally brought the track back to life. You can watch the interview below. The eighth annual World Short Track Championship is a three-day event featuring the best weekly racers in the country. The event, hosted at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Thursday, Oct. 26 to Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, will put 10 divisions on center stage in pursuit of a purse in excess of $120,000. The mega-event takes place the weekend before the World of Outlaws World Finals, ensuring two weeks of can’t miss, season-ending action featuring dirt racing’s top drivers, series and divisions. NOTE: Pro Stock and Sportsman Series races are non-points.
