It's been a dry year. How dry is it?

Tuesday, August 30, 2016 - 9:55am

One thing is for certain. We can never get enough rain to be satisfied. Myself included in this. I always complain if we go more than a few days without rain. Then I also complain when it has done nothing but rain on a particular day. This year has certainly been dry. Not as dry as last year to this point thank goodness! It's pretty close though.

We are currently on pace for the 10th driest year on record here in Rowan County. Interestingly enough look at how many post 2000 years are in the top 10 to this point in the year. 7 out 10. We all know the big turn arounds for us came in the fall for many of those years. Hopefully this year is no exception

The summer has been dry for sure and as usual it has set us back in terms of precipitation.

This summer has been the 24th driest on record for us. As we head into the fall months we are currently 6.56 inches below normal for the year on rainfall. I will keep an eye on the deficit and of course it is something the NC Climate Office is always on top of. So now that we know where we are. Let's hope for some wet months ahead to put us in a better position for the end of the year.

As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
