Bristol Race Weather Update 8/19/16

Friday, August 19, 2016 - 10:59am

You may or may not have read by now that I have been providing race weather forecast and updates to Slugger Labbe Crew Chief of the #3 Austin Dillon Race Team for sometime now. I am looking forward to the month of October when I will be at Charlotte Motor Speedway with them providing weather from the infield. Before we get to Charlotte there are still several events to go. Just like the important race this weekend in Bristol. Which of course is just a few hours up the road. So in the event you are planning the trip over to Bristol for the race this weekend. This is what I have provided to Slugger and team forecast wise for this weekend.

Qualifying:
There is a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms with temperatures at a low around 68. Even though rain chances are a little high I think the track stays dry for qualifying. This track is good at self drying based on the angles and the Air Titans are just an added bonus so any rain that falls before qualifying starts could certainly be dried off the track.

Models are indicating the track looks to be clear of rain by the 5:30pm start.

Raceday:

50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with temperatures dropping to a low around 68.

The temperature at the start of the race will be around 82º

As the race goes on those temps will drop to the upper 60's Dew Points unfortunately will keep the air feeling oppressive.

The rain is the only concern I have even though chances are lower for race day than qualifying I can't rule out a shower during the race. If it occurs I don't see it ending the race as things look to be very light.

I will of course provide updates to Slugger during the race to keep him apprised of what may impact the track weather wise. If you are going to the track. Feel free to send me a message if you need an update and I will certainly try my best to provide you with that information. Enjoy your time there and as always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
