A wet Wednesday on tap

Wednesday, February 7, 2018 - 8:39am

Good Wednesday morning! We are already off to a wet start. The rains will continue throughout most of the day with us starting to dry out later this evening. We will see a large area of rain move through as we continue through the day. Then a small secondary line will form and move through on the backend with a break in between.  Let's take a look at how the system will move thorough and what to expect after its over.

We will see heavier bands of rain move through during the morning and afternoon hours. The first heavy batch will move through the county between 9 & 10am. The biggest concern I have with the rain moving through is localized flooding. We could see some trees come down as the ground saturates. That could impact possible power outages. Now of course that is worse case scenario. Just keep the rain gear handy and slow down on the roadways.

Another round of heavy rain will move through the county as we head into the midday hours. So if you plan on heading out for lunch you may want to adjust your timing or plan for extra time to deal with the downpours. Certainly allow for extra travel time so you can take it slow out there while driving.

We will see a small break from the rain around 4 - 5pm this afternoon.  A second line will form and move through behind the main line of rain. I expect this line of precipitation to move through around the 5 - 6pm hour. Just adding to the overall accumulation.

By this evening between 7 - 8pm we will start to dry out. It is going to be a wet & soggy day out there. Again, keep the rain gear handy and just allow for extra time on the roadways.

Accumulations of around a half of an inch to an inch and a quarter are possible with this system. So this will have a huge impact on reducing the drought levels we are currently in around the county. Now let's take a look at the high and low temperatures of the day. We will see a high of around 59º with a low of around 34º this evening.

Again please take your time on the roads today, keep the rain gear handy. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
