A cold rain today could lead to some icing on bridges tonight

Monday, January 8, 2018 - 8:33am

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the county through midnight tonight. We could see some cold rain move in later this afternoon and evening. Schools in the county ar dismissing 3 hours early. Here's what you can expect from the weather. The high today will top out at around 33º

The low this evening will bottom out at around 29º

We could see some very light rain move in around 4pm. The air is really dry still so it is going to take some time for rain to reach the ground. Due to the cold temperatures we have been having we are likely to see freezing on bridges and elevated surfaces from any accumulation this evening.

As for accumulation I am expecting less than a tenth of an inch of rainfall because the air is so dry.

Due to the dryness and lack of expected accumulation I think we could only see a light glaze of ice in northwest Rowan County overnight. Otherwise I think the county will be just fine.

I will keep you updated right here and on social media throughout the day. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
