Thursday Weather Update and a Look ahead to the weekend

Thursday, October 5, 2017 - 10:08am

All eyes for the upcoming weekend will be on the path of Tropical Storm Nate. I will have more on that in a moment. First lets take a look at what to expect for today.

Sunny skies will be predominant as we march toward a high of around 81º

We will see sustained winds of around 11 miles per hour around the county today.

All in all it looks to be a pretty good day around the #RoCo

Now onto this weekend. A few events happening around the area. The Autumn Jubilee at Dan Nicholas Park &  The Bank of America 500 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. How will the rain potential come into play for those events? Lets take a look.

Things look pretty dry for the weekend until late Saturday evening. Then we start to see some light rain begin to move into the area and the county.

Light isolated rain showers will be around off and on through the midday hours on Sunday then the rain tends to become more widespread and heavier. Around the 1pm timeframe on Sunday

From that point through Early Tuesday morning rain will be more widespread and heavy. Now this could impact the start time of the race and some outdoor events for the Autumn Jubilee but I don't expect this to be a total washout where it simply rains all day long without stopping at any point this weekend. I think we will see some breaks at various times. As far as overall accumulation from the time rain starts late Saturday through Tuesday Morning. We could see around an inch and a half or more here in the county.

This could easily swing either way depending on how the track of #Nate factors in over the next few days. A westerly shift brings rain totals down. An easterly shift will bring them back up. I will certainly keep an eye on the forecast models and keep you updated right here and on social media over the weekend and into next week. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
