An Update on the Tropics
As we have all observed over the past few weeks the tropics have been active with Hurricane's Harvey & Irma. I wanted to give you an update on a storm that has been ut there for a while now that will cause impacts on the Eastern Seaboard in terms of rough surf and possible erosion along the beaches. This storm will have zero impact here in the county. That storm is Tropical Storm Jose. Jose has been out there since before we actually started to feel the impacts of Irma here on the east coast and around the region. The storm stalled for a few days in the Atlantic but is now back on the move again. Here is the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center on Jose.

Jose will start to make its way toward the east coast this weekend and is expected to run and skirt along the eastern seaboard into early next week. Impacts will be felt along the coast from North Carolina through New Jersey. The winds along the coast could reach Tropical Storm Force Winds that will make rough surf and beach erosion likely in these areas. The winds will not get close to us here in Rowan County and the only way you are likely to see impacts form Jose is if you are traveling to the NC coast next this weekend and early next week. Below shows who will feel the impacts from Tropical Storm Force Winds from Jose. Rowan County is well to the west.

There is a new storm for us to keep an eye on out in the Atlantic. Tropical Depression Fourteen. If this storm becomes named it will likely take the name Lee. This storm is just off the African Coast and a long way out. So no need to focus on it right now. Just something to keep an eye on for movement and strengthening at this point.

I will continue to monitor these storms and provide updates to you if necessary. For now there is zero impact for us in Rowan County form anything in the Tropics. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
