We have been talking about this event for sometime now and the culmination happens today starting just after 1pm. The weather looks pretty good for our viewing here in the county. There is a very slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms but I feel pretty confident we will be able to view the Eclipse here in the county.
The Storms Prediction Center has us under a Geneal Thunderstorm Risk for today.

The Future Cast does show a few possible isolated showers and storms in the county during the Eclipse period. I feel the models are slightly off and these showers and storms may stay just to our west. I will of course monitor the activity and keep you updated right here and on social media throughout the day.

The high temperature before we head into the Eclipse will be around 89º we could see the temperature drop as much as 20º by the peak of the Eclipse putting us in the low 70's to upper 60's.

Cloud coverage looks to be in our favor during the Eclipse. So if you've got your glasses get outside and take in the Eclipse!

The Red Line in all of the Cloud Cover Images is the path of Totality for the Eclipse. This will be the area that has a full 100% Solar Eclipse.

If we do get some of those isolated showers or storms I am only expecting around a quarter of an inch of accumulations. Again I feel most of this activity will remain in the mountains and foothills.

Don't forget you can also safely view the Eclipse right here on Rowan County Weather's website as it is streamed live by NASA. Simply click here to view the event.
As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather and enjoy the Eclipse!
