Total Solar Eclipse Forecast Update 8/17/17

Thursday, August 17, 2017 - 9:30am

We are now just 4 days away from the Total Solar Eclipse. Over the past few days the models have been flirting with rain chances and cloud cover during the eclipse. This morning they show a much clear picture. As of right now I would give us Mostly Sunny skies for the event.

There is a slight chance of isolated showers off to our south and east. So if you are traveling to view the Eclipse you need to check the local forecast for your destination to ensure you aren't going to miss anything.

Cloud cover in the current models looks pretty light. That's a great sign for us if this trend continues. As of now anywhere in the county will be a great place to view the Eclipse.

The temperatures at the beginning of the Eclipse are going to be around 95º and we could see temperatures drop 20º by the peak of the Eclipse. So we could see temps drop to the mid 70's. Please remember if you are not planning on looking directly at the Eclipse. You do not need the safety glasses. If you are planning on looking. Please only do so with the Eclipse Glasses.

As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather
