Total Solar Eclipse Forecast Update 8/15/177

Tuesday, August 15, 2017 - 8:39am

We are now just six days away for the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse and things are looking up! The models are trending that rain will be east of the area. We are looking at Mostly Sunny skies for the day with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. I think these storms stay off to our south and east at this point.

Model data has been trending the rain to the south and east of us for the event. Now this is not good news if you are heading to south Carolina for the the chance of totality viewing. If you are staying right here at home. It is looking pretty good for us at the moment.

The Cloud cover also looks to be to our south and east during the eclipse time period. So again great news for those of use staying right here in Rowan County to view the eclipse. Please remember and I will say this once more before the end of this article. If you are going to view the eclipse. Please have certified viewing glasses. Do not look up at the eclipse otherwise.

Another great indicator that we will have clear skies for the event is the fact that the forecast model temperatures for around 1pm on Monday are currently showing 96º we will see the temperature drop during the eclipse to the mid 70's if this holds true as the temperature is expected to drop about 20º during the event.

Please as I have stated already. If you are going to look up at the eclipse as it is occurring. Do not do so without wearing the approved safety glasses that are on the market. If you are having trouble finding glasses. The Rowan County Public Library will be offering some the day of the event. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
