Slight chance for severe weather today

Monday, May 29, 2017 - 9:39am

We have a slight chance for Severe Weather around the county on this Memorial Day. So please stay weather aware during any outdoor activities you may have.

The county and most of the area to our south and east are under a slight risk for Severe Weather. This information comes form the Storms Prediction Center in Norman Oklahoma.

Showers and storms are likely to move into the county later this afternoon and evening. Could see them isolated at first before coming a little more widespread before things are all said and done.

CAPE levels will be a little elevated by the time these storms come through the county. I think they will create a chance for strong thunderstorm chances A severe thunderstorm is possible as well. However, I think some of the needed ingredients will be missing for these storms to really ramp up.

Super Cell chances are a little elevated by the time these storms move through the county as well so we could see a few storms with small hail and gusty winds if this verifies. Of course those would warrant a severe thunderstorm warning if they come to fruition.

Accumulations of a quarter to a half of an inch are possible around the county form storms today. I will of course keep things updated right here and on social media as storms begin to approach and move through the county. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather. Have a Great Memorial Day!
