Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Rowan County Until 5:00 PM

Saturday, June 27, 2026 - 4:02pm

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Rowan County until 5:00 PM.

The warning also includes portions of Cabarrus, Catawba, Iredell, Lincoln and Mecklenburg counties.

At 3:58 PM, Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms extending from just north of Statesville to southeast of Newton. The line is moving southeast at 35 mph.

The primary hazard with these storms is damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph. These winds are capable of bringing down trees, snapping large limbs and causing scattered power outages.

Communities within the warning include Salisbury, Kannapolis, China Grove, Spencer, along with nearby areas including Statesville, Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, and West Concord.

If you are in Rowan County, now is the time to complete any outdoor activities and move indoors. Stay away from windows and remain inside a sturdy building until the storms pass.

While this warning is primarily for damaging winds, torrential rainfall, dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning and brief periods of reduced visibility can also be expected as the line moves through.

I will continue tracking these storms closely and provide additional updates if new warnings are issued or if significant impacts are reported across Rowan County.
