Tropical Outlook: Low Chance of Development Off the Southeast Coast Next Week

Saturday, June 27, 2026 - 9:06am

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area that could develop off the southeastern U.S. coast early next week.

A low pressure area is expected to form along the western end of a stalled frontal boundary offshore of the Southeast. Once it develops, the system is forecast to move slowly westward, and gradual development will be possible.

At this time, the National Hurricane Center gives the system a 0% chance of tropical development over the next 48 hours and only a 20% chance over the next seven days, indicating that any development would be slow and remain unlikely.

There are no immediate impacts expected for Rowan County or the western Carolinas. Regardless of whether the system becomes tropical, I'll continue monitoring its progress over the coming days and will provide updates if the forecast changes or if there is any potential for impacts across the Carolinas.

The Atlantic hurricane season is entering a more active part of the year, so it's a good reminder that I'll continue keeping a close eye on the tropics throughout the season.
