Tropical Disturbance Remains Unlikely to Develop Before Moving Into Mexico

Thursday, June 11, 2026 - 8:32am

The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a tropical wave moving across the Yucatan Peninsula and into the Bay of Campeche.

According to the latest Tropical Weather Outlook issued Thursday morning, a broad area of low pressure is expected to form over the Bay of Campeche on Friday as the wave moves westward.

Development chances remain low, with the National Hurricane Center giving the system only a 10% chance of tropical development over the next 48 hours and the next seven days.

Forecasters note that environmental conditions will only be marginally favorable for development before the system moves inland over eastern Mexico late Saturday or Sunday.

At this time, no impacts are expected for the United States, including North Carolina.

Rowan County Weather will continue monitoring conditions across the Atlantic Basin as the 2026 Hurricane Season continues.

Current Development Odds

  • Next 48 Hours: 10%
  • Next 7 Days: 10%

The next scheduled Tropical Weather Outlook will be issued by the National Hurricane Center later today unless conditions warrant additional updates.
