That change sets the stage for patchy frost over the next couple of nights.
Tonight (Sunday Night)
As the front moves through and skies begin to clear, temperatures will fall into the lower 40s across most of Rowan County.
Some rural and low-lying areas could dip into the upper 30s, where patchy frost becomes possible — especially in:
- Open fields
- Low-lying valleys
- Areas outside of Salisbury
Winds will gradually calm overnight, allowing temperatures near the ground to drop just enough for isolated frost development.
Monday Night (Greater Concern)
Monday night looks like the better setup for frost.
With clear skies, lighter winds, and temperatures dropping into the mid-30s, more areas across Rowan County could see patchy frost — especially outside of urban areas.
If you have:
- Sensitive plants
- Early garden growth
- Outdoor flowers
You may want to take precautions Monday night into early Tuesday morning.
Why Frost Happens (Even in April)
Even though we’re in mid-April, frost can still develop when:
- Skies clear out
- Winds become light
- Dry air moves in behind a front
This allows heat to escape quickly overnight, cooling surfaces enough for frost to form — even if the official air temperature stays just above freezing.
What Happens Next
After the chilly start to the week, temperatures rebound quickly:
- Tuesday: Near 70°
- Wednesday: Low 80s
- Thursday: Mid 80s
Bottom Line
- Cold front moves through later today
- Patchy frost possible tonight in rural spots
- Better chance for frost Monday night
- Warmer weather returns quickly by midweek
