Cool Start, Warm Finish: Your Week Ahead Across Rowan, Davie & Davidson Counties

Saturday, April 18, 2026 - 9:26am

After a brief taste of summer this weekend, a big shift is on the way across the area.

A cold front moving through late tonight into Sunday will reset temperatures and bring a much cooler start to the week — but don’t expect it to last long.

Sunday: The Reset Button

Sunday will feel completely different compared to Saturday’s near 90° heat.

Clouds and a few light showers will move through during the morning hours, followed by clearing skies in the afternoon. Rainfall amounts will be very limited — generally just a few hundredths of an inch to around a tenth at most.

Behind the front, gusty northwest winds will pick up, helping usher in much cooler air.

High temperatures Sunday will only reach the mid to upper 60s, nearly 25 degrees cooler than Saturday.

Monday & Tuesday: Classic Spring Cooldown

Cool, dry air settles in to start the work week.

  • Highs: Upper 60s to around 70°
  • Morning lows: Upper 30s to low 40s

These will be some of the coolest mornings we’ve seen in a while, and a few sheltered areas could even flirt with patchy frost early Tuesday morning.

Sunshine will dominate both days, but the dry air means humidity stays low — and that keeps fire danger concerns in place despite the cooler temperatures.

Wednesday: Turning the Corner

By midweek, temperatures begin climbing again.

Highs return to the low 80s, with mostly sunny skies continuing. This marks the start of another warming trend that will carry us back above normal.

The Big Picture

This is a classic spring pattern across the Carolinas:

  • A quick surge of summer-like heat
  • A fast-moving cold front
  • A brief cooldown
  • Then a return to warmer weather

One thing that doesn’t change much? The lack of meaningful rainfall.

Even with Sunday morning’s showers, totals remain light and won’t provide much help for ongoing dry conditions. That means drought and fire weather concerns will continue into next week.

Bottom Line

  • Sunday: Cooler, breezy, a few morning showers
  • Monday–Tuesday: Sunny, cool mornings, comfortable afternoons
  • Wednesday: Warmer, back into the 80s
  • Overall: Dry pattern continues
