This January so far has had highs in the low 70's and lows in the single digits. Currently with an average temperature of 37.7º we are in the 28th coldest January in Rowan County history so far.

So far this month in terms of rainfall we have accumulated 1.84 inches officially at the airport. This is currently the 17th driest January on record in Rowan County.

Officially at the airport so far this January we have had 4.9 inches of snowfall for the month. Now I know many of you will say "I got more than that at my house" You are absolutely right. There were some areas in Rowan County that had over 9 inches of snowfall. However, since records are kept in an official capacity at the airport that is why it only shows 4.9 inches. This January currently ranks 20th all time for snowfall in the county.

On January 10th we tied a record for the low temperature on that date. Tying the record low set back in 1970.

For the Month-to-Date totals things are looking pretty good. Look below the picture for a breakdown of the summary.

- For the month we are pretty much right on target for our average high temperatures. We are only 0.1º above average for the month.
- The average low temperature is below normal for the month by almost 2º This can be credited to the single digit lows we had last week around the county.
- We are 1º below normal for the average temperature again based on the cold air that was in place especially with the snow pack on the ground for a few days last week around the county.
- Total precipitation we are above normal for the month which is always a great sign! Almost 0.3 above average on the month.
- Total snowfall we are well above average for the month. 4 inches above average to be exact.
So January so far has been below average for temperatures and above average for snowfall and precipitation. I say lets take it! I would much rather have above average precipitation right now because we finished so far behind for last year. I will provide a month end update in a few weeks to let you know how the month wrapped up. Enjoy the rest of your January no matter what the weather! As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
