Increased Fire Danger Monday Afternoon and Evening

Sunday, March 22, 2026 - 2:43pm

Another round of increased fire danger is expected across the area Monday afternoon through Monday evening as dry and breezy conditions return.

Recent weather has allowed dry brush and leaf litter to become highly flammable, and Monday’s conditions will only increase that risk.

Why Fire Risk Is Elevated

Several key factors are coming together:

  • Low humidity: Falling below 30% during the afternoon
  • Gusty winds: Wind gusts up to 25 mph
  • Dry vegetation: Leaves, grass, and brush ready to ignite

These conditions make it easier for fires to start—and more importantly—spread quickly once they do.

Timing

  • Monday afternoon through Monday evening
  • Peak risk during the warmest and driest part of the day

Use Extreme Caution

Residents are urged to be especially careful with any activity that could spark a fire:

  • Avoid outdoor burning if possible
  • Never leave fires unattended
  • Be cautious with equipment that can produce sparks
  • Properly dispose of cigarettes and matches

Even small flames can quickly grow out of control under these conditions.

Check Before You Burn

Before doing any outdoor burning, be sure to check with your local burn permitting authorities to see if burning is allowed.

Even if permitted, conditions may still be dangerous enough to reconsider.

Bottom Line

Dry air, gusty winds, and very dry vegetation will combine to create a heightened wildfire risk Monday afternoon and evening.

It only takes one spark—use caution and help prevent fires across the community.
