The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch #66, which includes Davidson County and much of central North Carolina.

A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms to develop in and near the watch area.
Counties Included in the Watch
The Tornado Watch covers 22 counties across central North Carolina, including:
Alamance, Anson, Chatham, Cumberland, Davidson, Durham, Forsyth, Granville, Guilford, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Orange, Person, Randolph, Richmond, Scotland, Stanly, Vance, and Wake.

Lexington, Thomasville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, Durham, Raleigh, Cary, Chapel Hill, Burlington, Sanford, Asheboro, Albemarle, Fayetteville, and many other communities across the region.
What This Means for Davidson County
Storms moving through the region today may become severe, with the potential for:
-
Damaging wind gusts
-
Large hail
-
Isolated tornadoes
Residents across Davidson County, including Lexington and Thomasville, should remain weather aware through the early afternoon.
How to Prepare
Because storms may develop quickly, residents should:
-
Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings
-
Be prepared to move to a safe shelter quickly if a warning is issued
-
Stay indoors if storms approach your location
The safest place during a tornado warning is a small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.
