Tuesday Night Rainmaker: What the Midweek Cold Front Means for Rowan County

Saturday, November 22, 2025 - 8:30am

A change in the weather is on the way for Rowan County as a moist cold front pushes into the Carolinas Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. After a stretch of warm and mostly dry November days, this system will bring a noticeable shift in conditions and the best chance of rain we’ve seen in over a week.

A Mild Start to the Week

Sunday and Monday will stay dry with highs in the 60s and overnight lows dropping into the upper 30s and low 40s. Clouds will gradually increase late Monday night as moisture builds ahead of the approaching system. By Tuesday, most of the day remains mostly cloudy but still dry, with highs once again in the mid-60s.

Rain Arrives Tuesday Night

Showers become likely after midnight Tuesday night as the cold front moves in from the west. Confidence is high that most of Rowan County will see rain, with forecast guidance showing a 70% chance of showers overnight into early Wednesday. This will not be a severe weather setup — instability remains low — but deeper moisture and strong upper-level forcing will support a steady period of rain.

How Much Rain to Expect

Current projections show the potential for around a half-inch of rain locally, with higher totals possible in the foothills and mountains. This will be beneficial rain following a dry stretch, and widespread flooding is not expected due to the dry ground and generally modest rainfall rates.

Impacts for Wednesday

A few lingering showers may continue through around 9 a.m., but most of Wednesday will be cloudy and gradually drying out. Highs reach near 70° before the colder air begins to move in late Wednesday night, dropping lows into the lower 40s.

A Cooler End to the Week

Behind the front, temperatures trend cooler heading toward Thursday and Friday. Daytime highs will fall several degrees below normal heading into the weekend, and overnight lows will dip back into the 30s. This marks the start of a more seasonable pattern as Thanksgiving week approaches.
