A cold front will move into the Carolinas late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, bringing a round of rain and a few thunderstorms to the area. Here’s what to expect.
A Mild Start to the Week
Monday and Tuesday will both offer mild, mostly dry conditions across Rowan County. Highs climb into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees with periods of cloud cover. Winds remain light, and aside from some morning fog in the usual low-lying areas, weather impacts will be minimal.
This brief warmup sets the stage for the moisture that arrives Tuesday night.
Showers Move In Late Tuesday Night
Rain chances increase quickly after midnight as a cold front pushes through the western Carolinas. Most of the rain will fall between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Wednesday, with showers likely during that window.
At this point, rainfall looks moderate but manageable. This system should bring a much-needed soaking, but widespread flooding is not expected. Most areas will pick up around a half inch of rain, with locally higher amounts possible in heavier pockets.
A few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out, but this does not look like a high-impact thunderstorm setup.
Breezy and Cooler Behind the Front
As the front exits Wednesday morning, winds shift northwest and pick up slightly. Temperatures fall behind the front, but not dramatically. Highs Wednesday should remain in the mid-60s with gradual clearing into the afternoon.
Cooler air filters in Wednesday night, with lows dropping into the 40s.
Why This Front Matters
While not a major storm, this system provides several benefits:
• A healthy dose of rain after a stretch of dry conditions
• Renewed soil moisture for late-season fall growth
• A pattern shift that brings temperatures closer to seasonal norms
For those planning travel later in the week, this front will be long gone by Thanksgiving, and conditions look more stable heading into the holiday.
Looking Ahead
Behind the midweek front, Rowan County moves into a cooler and drier pattern. Sunshine returns for the end of the week, and temperatures settle into the 60s for afternoon highs and 40s overnight.
I’ll continue to track timing changes and adjustments to rainfall amounts as we get closer to Tuesday night. A more detailed breakdown will be included in the video forecast early next week.
