What to know:
-
Mosquito season in North Carolina generally runs from spring into late October or early November, depending on how long warm, humid weather persists. Mosquito Squad+2Carolina Pest+2
-
Mosquitoes thrive when temperatures stay above around 50 °F and when humidity is high. Terminix+1
-
With the current forecast showing nights in the 20s and daytime highs only in the 40s/50s, mosquito populations will become much less active by mid-week and into next week as the air cools and dries.
What this means for you:
-
You’ll likely notice far fewer mosquito bites, especially after dark.
-
Still: if you spend time outdoors at dusk or early morning, occasional mosquitoes may show up in sheltered or shaded damp spots.
-
Continue eliminating standing water around the yard (bird-baths, gutters, buckets). While major mosquito breeding will drop off, any leftover water can still support late-season mosquitoes.
-
Protective measures (screens, repellent) are less critical than in summer, but still helpful until the first hard freeze has occurred.
Looking ahead:
This is the final seasonal mosquito forecast of 2025 for Rowan County. As we move into mid-November and beyond, mosquito activity will be negligible. We’ll resume tracking again next spring when warm, humid conditions return.
