Activity Outlook:
Rowan County is now entering the very end of mosquito season. Activity has already dropped sharply thanks to cooler mornings and shorter days, and it will decline even more as a strong cold front and hard freeze arrive early in the new week.
Mosquitoes rely on warm, damp conditions to remain active. With overnight lows expected to fall into the 20s by Monday night, adult mosquitoes will become inactive, and remaining larvae in standing water will not survive the freeze.
Recommendations:
-
Continue to remove any standing water around your home to prevent late-season breeding.
-
Outdoor events this weekend should see little to no mosquito activity, but keep repellent handy if you’re near wooded or low-lying areas.
-
Pest control treatments for mosquitoes can safely wrap up for the season after this weekend.
Summary:
Mosquito activity in Rowan County is now very low and will quickly fade to zero once colder air arrives.
Note: Monday will be the final Mosquito Forecast of the season. These updates will return in the spring when conditions once again support mosquito activity across Rowan County.
