Thursday, November 6, 2025

Cooler, drier weather continues to keep mosquito activity very low across Rowan County, and with a hard freeze on the way, the season is just about finished.

Current Conditions

Mosquito counts remain very low countywide. Daytime highs in the 60s and cool, dry evenings have limited breeding activity in standing water. A few isolated spots could still see light mosquito presence near creeks and shaded areas, but most of the county is now past peak activity.

Weekend Outlook

Expect one of the last noticeable drops in mosquito activity this weekend. The first strong cold front will arrive Sunday, followed by a second, much stronger front that pushes in by Monday. Once overnight lows dip into the mid-20s early next week, mosquito populations will effectively shut down until spring.

Looking Ahead

The first widespread hard freeze Monday night will end the 2025 mosquito season for Rowan County. Eggs from certain species may overwinter in protected spots, but adult mosquito activity will be gone by early next week.

Seasonal Wrap-Up

Monday, November 10, will be the final Mosquito Forecast of the season. These updates will return in early March, when spring warmth and rainfall bring new activity.

Until then, enjoy a mosquito-free stretch ahead as fall gives way to early winter temperatures.
