The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows gradual improvement across the western Piedmont, including Rowan County. A recent stretch of steady rainfall has eased short-term dryness that had developed earlier in the month.
Rowan County:
The county remains classified as Abnormally Dry (D0), which represents the lightest category on the drought scale. While some soil moisture deficits persist, recent rains have been enough to slow any worsening trend.
Regional Overview:
Conditions vary across North Carolina. The Triad and Sandhills are still showing mild dryness, while the Charlotte and Concord areas reflect similar “D0” levels. Farther east, some Moderate Drought (D1) zones persist in the Coastal Plain and northeastern counties.
With mostly dry weather ahead through the start of November, these conditions may hold steady for a time before the next rain-producing system moves through.
The overall trend is a positive one — improvement across the western Carolinas, especially after the soggy end to October.
