After several days of cold rain, gusty winds, and gray skies, Rowan County is finally turning a corner toward calmer, clearer weather. The tradeoff? A few chilly mornings ahead — and the first patchy frost of the season for many neighborhoods.
Frost Potential Friday and Saturday Morning
As clear skies and light winds settle in late Friday night, temperatures will dip into the mid-30s across much of Rowan County. Rural areas, especially those in low-lying spots and valleys, could see the first thin layer of frost on windshields and lawns by sunrise Saturday.
The setup is textbook for a frosty morning — dry air, calm winds, and clear skies that allow heat to escape quickly overnight. Not everyone will see frost, but if your backyard tends to cool off fast, you’ll want to keep an eye on the thermometer before sunrise.
Protecting Plants and Outdoor Gear
It’s not a deep freeze, but it’s just chilly enough to do a little damage to sensitive plants or late-season gardens. If you’ve kept herbs or potted flowers outdoors, cover them or bring them inside Friday and Saturday nights.
Garden hoses, fountains, and birdbaths can also take a beating when frost settles in. Draining or covering them helps avoid those first cold-weather cracks and splits.
A Bright, Calm Weekend Ahead
After the frosty start, sunshine returns with highs in the low 60s through the weekend. It will be a much more comfortable stretch for outdoor plans, yard work, or visiting local fall festivals — a welcome change after the soggy and blustery weather that’s dominated the past few days.
