Drought Update Moderate Drought Conditions for most of the county

As we continue to remain very dry and have not had any rain now in the county for over 30 days. The drought conditions around the county continue to get worse.

As you can see from the picture above areas east of Interstate 85 are in a moderate drought while areas east of Interstate 85 are in an abnormal drought. We do have a chance for rain tonight and early tomorrow morning. However, this will not be enough to even make a dent in the current deficit. We are closing in on 10 inches below normal for the year and are having our second driest year on record here in Rowan County. I would not be surprised to see some Mandatory Water Restrictions issued before too much longer around the county. I will provide another update next week on the drought situation.
