Mosquito Activity Forecast

Sunday, October 26, 2025 - 8:41am

Mosquito activity across Rowan County is expected to be low to moderate through the next several days as cooler temperatures move in. With daytime highs dropping into the 50s and nights in the 40s, mosquito metabolism and flight-activity are suppressed when temperatures approach or fall below roughly 50 °F. That said, there are still factors to watch: any bouts of rain or rising humidity will temporarily boost mosquito potential by increasing breeding habitat or survival conditions. Mosquito Squad+1

What you should know:

  • Cooler air means fewer active mosquitoes, but this does not eliminate them entirely.

  • If rain occurs, standing water (gutters, buckets, containers) may allow localized mosquito upticks.

  • Use the cooler, drier spell to clear old standing water, refresh screens, and apply repellents if you’ll be outdoors at dawn or dusk.

  • Expect mosquito pressure to remain below the peak summer levels, but still relevant for outdoor comfort or bite-avoidance.
