Today through Sunday:
Cool mornings and dry afternoons will keep mosquito activity on the low side through the weekend. Patchy frost early Friday and Saturday mornings will help reduce larvae in standing water around shaded areas and drainage spots.
Early Next Week:
Rain returns beginning early Monday and continues off and on through Wednesday, bringing 1 to 2 inches of rainfall to much of Rowan County. That will temporarily increase standing water, creating new breeding areas by the end of the week. Expect a short-term bump in mosquito activity by Thursday and Friday, especially near low-lying or wooded areas that hold moisture.
Tips:
• Empty or drain outdoor containers before Monday’s rain.
• Check gutters, flower pots, and buckets for standing water.
• Cooler temperatures will help keep activity limited, but short warm-ups after rainfall can still trigger a quick hatch cycle.
Outlook:
Low mosquito activity through the weekend, with a moderate increase possible late next week as moisture builds back into the region.
