Increased Fire Danger Expected Wednesday Across Rowan County

The National Weather Service has issued a notice for increased fire danger across much of North Carolina on Wednesday, as dry air and breezy winds combine to create favorable conditions for rapid fire spread.

Behind a departing cold front, dry and windy conditions will settle back into the area. Afternoon relative humidity values will drop into the 25–30% range, and wind gusts could reach 15–20 mph at times. These factors, combined with the recent stretch of dry weather, will raise the risk of outdoor fires spreading quickly.

What This Means for Rowan County

Even though temperatures will remain cool, the lack of moisture in the air and in the ground will make it easier for fires to ignite and spread. Outdoor burning — including leaf piles, brush, or other debris — is strongly discouraged under these conditions.

Officials urge residents to check with local burn permitting authorities before conducting any outdoor burning. If burning is allowed, extreme caution is advised.
