Tropical Weather Update – Thursday, Sept. 25

Thursday, September 25, 2025 - 6:02am

The National Hurricane Center is tracking multiple systems across the Atlantic this morning:

Active Systems

  • Hurricane Gabrielle – located over the central subtropical Atlantic.

  • Tropical Storm Humberto – several hundred miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands.

Invest 94L (Eastern Caribbean Sea)
A tropical wave near the Dominican Republic is producing widespread showers and storms.

  • Heavy rain and gusty winds will impact Puerto Rico & Hispaniola today.

  • The system is forecast to slow down and turn northwest toward the Bahamas late this week.

  • A tropical depression is likely to form near the Bahamas.

    • Formation chance in 48 hours: 50%

    • Formation chance in 7 days: 80%

Tropical Storm Humberto – Latest Discussion

  • Humberto remains a sheared tropical storm with winds near 40 knots (45 mph).

  • Forecast: Gradual strengthening expected. Once wind shear relaxes, Humberto is likely to become a hurricane this weekend and could reach major hurricane strength by early next week.

  • Track forecast remains uncertain due to its interaction with 94L. Some models take it farther east, others show a slower, westward motion.

Bottom Line:
The Atlantic is very active with two named storms and one developing system. Interests in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and the Turks & Caicos should monitor closely.
