The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed Rowan County and much of the Carolinas under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms.

Thursday, September 25, 2025 - 5:56am

What This Means

  • Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening.

  • While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, a few storms may become strong.

  • The main concerns will be:

    • Damaging wind gusts in stronger cells.

    • Small hail possible with the most intense storms.

    • Heavy downpours leading to localized flooding in spots.

Timing

Best window for storms locally will be late afternoon through tonight, lining up with the approach of a weak cold front and upper-level disturbance.

Big Picture

This is the first in a series of unsettled days. More storm chances will continue Friday into Saturday, with rainfall amounts adding up across the region.
