Why This Week Feels More Like Fall Than September

Sunday, September 7, 2025 - 7:42am

Rowan County residents are in for a stretch of weather that feels much more like October than the first week of September. High pressure has settled in behind this weekend’s front, bringing cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and clear skies across the area.

Temperatures Below Normal

Normal highs for early September in Rowan County typically run in the mid to upper 80s. This week, however, most afternoons will top out only in the mid-70s to near 80 by Thursday. Overnight lows will also dip well below normal, with several nights in the low to mid-50s. That is about 8 to 10 degrees cooler than average.

Low Humidity, Comfortable Air

Dewpoints will stay in the upper 40s to lower 50s through much of the week, which is unusually dry for this time of year. The result is crisp mornings and comfortable afternoons that feel more like fall than summer. Many will notice a difference when stepping outside in the early morning, where the air will have that refreshing, almost October-like feel.

Outdoor Benefits

The combination of sunshine, cooler highs, and low humidity makes this one of the best stretches of weather we see all year. From morning coffee on the porch to evening walks, conditions will be excellent for outdoor activities. Homeowners may even see a break on their energy bills as air conditioners get a rest.

Looking Ahead

The dry pattern is expected to continue through the workweek, with only gradual moderation in temperatures. While the tropics remain active this time of year, Rowan County looks to stay quiet at least through the next several days.
