Weekend Weather Watch: Clouds Return, But Will the Rain Hold Off?

Wednesday, August 27, 2025 - 8:04am

Rowan County has enjoyed several days of cooler, drier air thanks to high pressure sitting over the region. That trend will continue through the end of the workweek, but by Saturday and Sunday, the forecast begins to shift just a bit.

A Comfortable Start

Today and Friday remain on the pleasant side with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and plenty of sunshine. Humidity will stay low, making afternoons feel comfortable for late August.

Weekend Changes

By Saturday, moisture levels start to rise slightly as clouds increase across the Carolinas. While most of the weekend looks dry, there is just enough unsettled air to bring a small chance of a passing shower, especially closer to the mountains and across South Carolina. For Rowan County, the better bet is partly sunny skies both Saturday and Sunday with highs around 80 on Saturday and mid-70s on Sunday.

Outdoor Planning

If you are headed to ballgames, the lake, or any outdoor events, conditions should cooperate with little concern for widespread rain. Clouds may be more noticeable at times, but overall this is shaping up to be a comfortable late August weekend.

Looking Ahead

The early part of next week will continue the theme of cooler-than-normal temperatures. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 50s, giving Rowan County a touch of early fall in the mornings.
