Weekend Forecast: Clouds, Storm Chances, and a Hint of Fall Ahead

Friday, August 22, 2025 - 8:15am

Rowan County heads into the weekend with a mix of unsettled skies, occasional showers, and the promise of cooler, more comfortable weather just around the corner.

Friday started off with a few spotty showers early, but the bigger story is the mostly cloudy skies and highs holding near 80 degrees. That’s several degrees below normal for this point in August, setting the tone for a stretch of cooler-than-usual days.

Saturday and Sunday will bring more opportunities for showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. The atmosphere remains unsettled, and while widespread severe weather is not expected, any storm that develops could produce locally heavy rainfall. Highs will top out in the lower 80s both days, with nighttime lows settling in the mid-60s under mostly cloudy skies.

The big change arrives on Monday. A cold front will sweep through, ushering in drier air and more sunshine. Highs will remain near the low to mid-80s, but humidity will drop, making it feel noticeably more comfortable. By Tuesday, highs around 80 and overnight lows in the upper 50s to near 60 will give Rowan County an early taste of fall.

Looking Ahead
This shift marks a pattern change that will likely stick around through much of next week. After several weeks of muggy, stormy weather, the coming stretch should bring some relief with cooler mornings, lower humidity, and calmer conditions overall.
