Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Southern Rowan, North Central Mecklenburg, and Northwestern Cabarrus Counties

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning effective until 5:45 PM EDT for portions of the Piedmont, including:

• Southern Rowan County

• North central Mecklenburg County

• Northwestern Cabarrus County

Storm Details:

At 4:39 PM, radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms stretching from near Salisbury to areas north of Kannapolis, southeast of Statesville, and east of Lincolnton. These storms are moving southeast at 25 miles per hour.

Hazards:

• Wind gusts up to 60 mph

• Radar-indicated threats of damage to trees and power lines

Areas Under Threat:

• Huntersville

• Kannapolis

• Downtown Concord

• Salisbury

• Northeast Charlotte

• West Concord

• China Grove

• Spencer

• Landis

• Enochville

These storms may arrive quickly with little warning and could result in downed trees, scattered power outages, and dangerous travel conditions.

Safety Reminder:

If you are in the path of these storms, move indoors immediately and seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows and remain inside until the storm has passed.
