Tuesday and Wednesday will still feel oppressive, with highs in the low to mid-90s and heat index values exceeding 100 degrees. A Heat Advisory remains in effect Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for much of the Piedmont, including Rowan County. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected both afternoons, driven by the combination of high moisture and lingering instability.
By Thursday, rain chances increase further, with scattered storms becoming more widespread late in the day. The front is expected to approach from the north and gradually settle southward into North Carolina on Friday.
This front will usher in noticeably cooler air by the weekend, with high temperatures dropping into the upper 70s and low 80s across the Piedmont. Overnight lows will also fall into the 60s, a welcome change after several warm and muggy nights.
Saturday may still bring a few showers, especially early in the day, but the bigger story will be the return of seasonable temperatures. Sunday is shaping up to be one of the nicest days we’ve seen in several weeks, with drier air, lower humidity, and plenty of clouds breaking for sunshine.
If you’ve been waiting for a break in the heat to spend time outdoors, this weekend could be your chance. Stay tuned to Rowan County Weather for the latest updates on storm chances and timing as the front moves through.
