Another Sizzler: Heat Index Near 105° Again Today in Rowan County

Sunday, July 20, 2025

Rowan County is in for another sweltering day, with high temperatures climbing into the mid-90s and heat index values approaching 105 degrees. Although no formal heat advisory is in effect for Rowan County at this time, areas just south and west — including the Charlotte metro — remain under heat advisories again today.

Today’s Forecast Highlights

  • High Temperature: 94 to 96 degrees

  • Heat Index: Up to 105 degrees possible

  • Winds: Calm this morning, becoming west-northwest around 6 mph this afternoon

  • Isolated showers and thunderstorms possible north of I-85 late today

This stretch of intense summer heat continues what has already been a hotter-than-average July. While dewpoints are expected to mix down slightly this afternoon, it won’t be enough to prevent another day of oppressive heat and high humidity.

Staying Safe in the Heat
Even without a formal advisory, heat index values over 100 can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, particularly for those spending extended time outdoors. Be sure to:

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning

  • Wear light, breathable clothing

  • Check on elderly neighbors or those without access to cooling

This pattern of daily heat and afternoon storm chances will continue into Monday, with some relief potentially arriving midweek behind a weak cold front.

Stay tuned to Rowan County Weather for updates on storm chances, cooling relief, and more as we head through the final full week of July.
