Strong Thunderstorm Tracking Into Northwestern Rowan and Surrounding Areas

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (July 17, 2025 – 8:15 PM EDT) — A strong thunderstorm is moving through parts of northwestern Rowan County, northeastern Iredell County, and southwestern Davie County, bringing the potential for gusty winds, hail, and heavy rainfall through at least 8:45 PM.

At 8:05 PM, Doppler radar showed the storm near Statesville, moving northeast at 20 mph.

Hazards with This Storm:

  • Wind gusts up to 40 mph

  • Hail up to half an inch in diameter

  • Torrential rainfall capable of creating localized flooding

Possible Impacts:

  • Tree limbs may be knocked down

  • Outdoor items not secured could be blown around

  • Minor hail damage to vehicles, plants, or other exposed surfaces

  • Reduced visibility and ponding on roadways
