Strong Thunderstorm Impacting Southeastern Rowan and Northeastern Cabarrus Counties

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (July 17, 2025 – 6:10 PM EDT) — A strong thunderstorm is currently affecting southeastern Rowan County and northeastern Cabarrus County, with the potential for gusty winds, small hail, and brief periods of heavy rain.

At 6:05 PM, Doppler radar indicated the storm was located near Rockwell, about 8 miles southeast of Salisbury, and moving northeast at 30 mph.

Hazards with This Storm:

  • Wind gusts up to 40 mph

  • Pea size hail

  • Brief periods of heavy rainfall

Potential Impacts:

  • Tree limbs may be knocked down

  • Unsecured outdoor items could be blown around

  • Minor hail damage to vehicles and property is possible
