Strong Thunderstorm Moving Into South Central Rowan and Northern Cabarrus Counties

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (July 17, 2025 – 5:40 PM EDT) — A strong thunderstorm is tracking northeast into southern Rowan County from Cabarrus County, with the potential to bring gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain to the region through 6:00 PM.

At 5:26 PM, Doppler radar detected the storm near Downtown Concord, moving northeast at 20 mph.

Hazards with This Storm:

  • Wind gusts up to 40 mph

  • Pea size hail

  • Torrential rainfall capable of localized flooding

Potential Impacts:

  • Tree limbs may be knocked down and unsecured items could be blown around

  • Minor hail damage possible to vehicles and outdoor equipment

  • Reduced visibility and ponding on roads from heavy rainfall
