Strong Thunderstorm Targets Northwestern Rowan and Surrounding Counties

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (July 17, 2025 – 4:45 PM EDT) — A strong thunderstorm is currently impacting portions of northwestern Rowan County, as well as northern Iredell, northwestern Davie, and southeastern Alexander counties, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service.

At 4:32 PM, Doppler radar detected a strong storm roughly 8 miles northwest of Statesville, near Stony Point, tracking east at approximately 15 mph.

Hazards with This Storm:

• Wind gusts up to 40 mph

• Hail up to half an inch in diameter

• Torrential rain leading to possible localized flooding

These conditions can lead to:

• Downed tree limbs and movement of unsecured outdoor items

• Minor hail damage to vehicles, plants, and outdoor fixtures

• Reduced visibility and ponding on roadways
