Strong Thunderstorm Impacts Southeastern Rowan and Northeastern Cabarrus Counties

A strong thunderstorm is currently moving through portions of southeastern Rowan County and northeastern Cabarrus County, bringing the potential for gusty winds, hail, and localized flooding through at least 4:00 PM EDT.

Storm Details:

  • Time Issued: 3:15 PM EDT

  • Location: 10 miles southeast of Salisbury, near Rockwell

  • Movement: Northeast at 20 mph

  • Hazards:

    • Wind gusts up to 40 mph

    • Pea-size hail

    • Torrential rainfall

  • Rockwell

  • Faith

  • Granite Quarry

  • Mt. Pleasant

  • High Rock Lake

  • Gold Hill

What to Expect:

This storm is capable of producing minor wind damage, such as downed tree limbs or blown-around unsecured outdoor items. The hail threat is limited to pea-size hail, but could still cause minor damage to sensitive outdoor surfaces.

In addition to wind and hail, heavy rainfall is occurring and may cause localized flooding, especially in low-lying or poor drainage areas.


Safety Tips:

  • Secure loose outdoor items like umbrellas, lawn furniture, or trash bins.

  • If you’re driving, use caution—ponding on roads and reduced visibility is possible.

  • Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown.

  • Remain indoors and away from windows until the storm passes.
