What’s Happening
As of 5:03 PM, Doppler radar and local rain gauges indicated that 1.5 to 2 inches of rain has already fallen over parts of Salisbury within the last 30 to 45 minutes. This intense rainfall is leading to nuisance flooding, particularly in areas with poor drainage and those adjacent to local creeks.
The storm is nearly stationary, meaning additional rainfall is likely over the next 1–2 hours.
Areas of Greatest Concern
The Flood Advisory highlights the following locations as vulnerable to minor flooding:
-
Salisbury, including downtown and East Innes Street corridor
-
Spencer and East Spencer
-
Granite Quarry and Faith
-
Areas near:
-
Town Creek, especially near E Innes St and Bringle Ferry Rd
-
Crane Creek, near Stokes Ferry Rd and Corbin Hills Golf Club
-
Grants Creek along low-lying park and greenway areas
-
Flood-prone roads and low-water crossings may become briefly impassable, especially where culverts or drainage ditches overflow. Parking lots, underpasses, golf courses, and boat-access areas may also see shallow standing water.
Safety Reminders
-
Do not drive through flooded roadways, even if water looks shallow.
-
Watch for rising water in low spots and along creeks.
-
Be especially cautious after sunset as flooded areas can be harder to see.
This is not a life-threatening flood emergency, but nuisance flooding can still pose hazards, especially for evening commuters and outdoor activities.
Stay Alert
Rowan County Weather will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as needed. Check back for radar snapshots, street-level impacts, and additional alerts throughout the evening.
