The National Weather Service has extended the Flood Advisory for Rowan, Iredell, and Davie Counties through 1:00 AM Thursday, as additional heavy rainfall continues to impact the region.

Current Situation:

As of 10:22 PM, Doppler radar indicates that 1 to 3 inches of rain has already fallen in parts of the advisory area. Additional rainfall of ½ to 1 inch is expected overnight as scattered thunderstorms linger, further increasing the risk of minor flooding.

Areas Affected:

The advisory includes a wide stretch of the Piedmont where water is either actively rising or expected to cause issues shortly. Flooding is most likely in low-lying areas, poor-drainage zones, and areas that have already seen repeated rainfall.

Communities included:

  • Rowan County: Salisbury, Woodleaf, Mount Ulla, Cleveland, Piedmont Research Station, and Fork Church

  • Iredell County: Statesville, Mooresville, Troutman, and Lake Norman State Park

  • Davie County: Mocksville, Advance, and Cooleemee

Flood Impacts:

  • Water may pond on roads, parking lots, and fields

  • Small creeks and streams may rise quickly

  • Flood-prone underpasses and low-water crossings could become hazardous or impassable

  • Conditions are especially dangerous at night, when flooded areas are harder to see

Safety Reminders:

  • Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown.

  • Avoid walking or driving through water-covered areas—it only takes a few inches of water to lose control of a vehicle

  • Be alert near creeks, culverts, and flood-prone intersections

  • Have an alternate route planned in case roads are closed or blocked by water

This advisory follows a series of strong storms that moved across the area earlier this evening, bringing torrential rainfall and frequent lightning. With additional rainfall continuing, minor flooding may develop or worsen through the early overnight hours.

Rowan County Weather will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if the situation worsens or if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
