The Hickory Crawdads kept the momentum rolling Friday night with a convincing 5–1 win over the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers at LP Frans Stadium, taking the opener in this weekend’s in-state showdown.
Barroso Delivers Big at the Plate
Outfielder Beycker Barroso led the way offensively with a three-RBI night, including a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh that broke the game open. Barroso’s timely hitting was part of a steady offensive effort that saw the Crawdads score in three different innings.
Macias, Martin Set the Table
Hickory’s top of the order did its job throughout the night. Antonis Macias reached base multiple times and scored three of Hickory’s five runs. Maxton Martin also crossed the plate twice, playing a key role in building early momentum.
Pitching in Control
Crawdads pitching kept Kannapolis quiet for most of the night. The bullpen held firm after giving up a single run in the seventh, preserving the lead and stifling any potential rally.
Series Implications
With the win, Hickory grabs a 1–0 lead in the series, with Game 2 scheduled for tonight. A win would give the Crawdads the weekend series and continue their strong recent form as the second half of the South Atlantic League season heats up.
