A cluster of strong thunderstorms is moving through portions of the region this evening, with impacts expected across southwestern Rowan County, northwestern Cabarrus County, and southeastern Iredell County through 8:00 PM.
Storm Details
As of 7:31 PM, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line from near Kannapolis to just west of Downtown Concord. The storms are moving slowly to the northeast at about 10 mph.

Radar-indicated wind gusts and small hail may cause minor damage to trees, outdoor furniture, and vehicles, especially in open or unsecured areas.

If you are outdoors, it’s recommended you seek shelter indoors immediately. These storms are producing frequent lightning, which can strike as far as 10 miles from the core of the storm.
Anyone on or near Lake Norman should get out of the water and move to a secure location. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
